Potosi…… not a lot to see…..

Potosi is now a “has been”. It was once the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru and the location of the Spanish colonial mint.

The silver mines are still there and the local indiginous people still work in the mines. It is a risky job and many people die due to the natural gases and harsh mining conditions. It is mainly the indiginous people who has been forced into the mining jobs. The mint stopped working about 50 years ago and ironically Bolivian currency now comes from Chile.
