Puno – not much fun-o!

Puno is a city at an altitude of 3,810m above see level (12.500 ft).  It is situated on Lake Titicaca, one of South America’s largest lakes and the world’s highest navigable lake. The altitude sickness can be hard to deal with and can make you very sick. Most hotels keep oxygen silinders in the hotel, in case of need for oxygen.

There was not much to do in Puno, but luckily there was a parade in the main square. So we watched as the various military, police and guilds marched past us but the highlight was watching the children marching dressed up in military outfits.

The next day we took a boat ride to see how the Uru people still live on floating reed islands in Lake Titicaca. They have been living on the lake for hundreds of years. They make their living from fishing and from selling their reed handicrafts to tourists.
